We built the accounting tool we wanted to use.
Kountr is calm, Canadian-first accounting for small businesses, freelancers, and bookkeepers — made by a small team that got tired of bending US software to fit Canadian rules.
Why we started
Every Canadian small business hits the same wall: the accounting software everyone recommends was built somewhere else, for someone else's tax system. You end up fighting it — bolting on workarounds for HST, GST and PST, exporting spreadsheets to make a CRA-ready report, and paying for features you'll never touch.
We thought bookkeeping for a Canadian freelancer or a small shop could feel calm instead of dreaded. So we built Kountr around Canadian rules from the first line of code: HST/GST/PST aware, CRA-ready exports, $CAD by default, province-by-province settings.
What we believe
- Calm beats clever. The best accounting tool is the one you barely have to think about. Transactions land categorized, receipts match themselves, and the quarter closes quietly.
- Canadian-first, not Canadian-eventually. Tax logic, bank coverage, and data residency are designed for here — not ported over and patched.
- Your data is yours. Bank connections are read-only through Plaid, data is encrypted at rest and kept in Canada, and we never sell or share it. You can export everything, any time.
- One tool for the whole table. Small-business owners get a simple view; their bookkeeper or CPA flips on CPA Mode for full double-entry — same workspace, no second subscription.
Where we are
We're a small team building from Toronto and Calgary. "Sahal" means easy in Arabic — same idea, same calm. If you want to talk to a human, we read every note that comes in at info@kountrfi.ca.
