The problem
The receipts folder labelled 'lol'

Photos of receipts in your camera roll, a few in email, a few in Slack DMs to yourself. Nothing matched to a transaction.

GST/HST that sneaks up on you

Quarterly filings show up faster than expected, and the math depends on which province your client is in. Most freelancers wing it.

Year-end panic

Your accountant asks for a clean P&L by category. You hand over a CSV that they spend three billable hours cleaning.

What Kountr does

Four things, done properly for freelancers.

Bank sync that works in Canada

Plaid connections to RBC, TD, Scotia, BMO, CIBC, National Bank, EQ, Wealthsimple, Tangerine, Simplii, and Desjardins. Read-only. New transactions land categorized in seconds, not days.

Receipt OCR built for the way freelancers work

Snap with the mobile app, drag onto the web app, or forward straight to your Kountr inbox email. Vendor, total, tax, and category extracted automatically and matched to a transaction.

GST/HST handled automatically

Per-province tax logic, quarterly reminders, and a CRA-ready report. We don't auto-file — you stay in the driver's seat — but the numbers you paste into My Business Account are ready in one click.

An AI that learns your categories

Kountr proposes a category for every transaction and gets better the more you correct it. Build a rule from any decision in one click, then forget it exists.

How it works

Four steps from chaos to filed.

Step 01

Connect your bank

Plaid in 30 seconds. Pulls 24 months of history.

Step 02

Auto-categorize

Every transaction gets a category. Receipts get matched.

Step 03

Review what's flagged

Just the things Kountr isn't sure about. Usually a few minutes a week.

Step 04

File GST/HST

Numbers ready to paste into CRA My Business Account, or hand to your CPA.

Questions

Asked and answered.

Is Kountr good for sole proprietors?+

Yes. Sole proprietors and self-employed contractors are the core use case. Kountr handles the business-side bookkeeping; on your personal T1 it produces the totals you (or your accountant) drop into the T2125 form.

Can it file my GST/HST?+

Kountr produces a CRA-ready GST/HST return based on your transactions. You file it through CRA My Business Account; we generate the line-by-line numbers so the return takes a few minutes instead of an evening.

Does it work with CRA My Business Account?+

Kountr produces the exact figures CRA's online forms ask for. We don't auto-file on your behalf — you stay in control of the submission.

What if I'm under the $30k small-supplier threshold?+

If you're not registered for GST/HST yet, Kountr still tracks your revenue so you can see how close you are to the threshold and decide when to register. We don't add tax to invoices until you turn it on.

How is this different from Wave?+

Wave is free and aims at very early-stage businesses. Kountr is paid and aimed at freelancers who already feel the pain of categorization, receipt capture, and HST filing. Bank sync via Plaid (Wave uses its own connector) and an AI that learns your categories are the two biggest day-to-day differences.

How is this different from FreshBooks?+

FreshBooks leads with invoicing. Kountr leads with bookkeeping and tax. If your headache is sending invoices and chasing payments, FreshBooks may suit you better. If your headache is keeping the books straight and filing HST, Kountr is built for that.

Can my accountant log in too?+

Yes. Invite your bookkeeper or CPA to your workspace with an Accountant role — they get double-entry, journal entries, trial balance, and period locks without changing what you see day-to-day.

What happens after the trial?+

Your free trial is 14 days, no card required. After the trial you pick a paid plan or stop using Kountr — either way, your data is yours to export at any time.
