We do not use your bank transactions, receipts, or any of your financial records to train AI models — ours or anyone else’s. We will not adopt an AI provider that reserves the right to train on your content.
Where AI is used in Kountr
- Receipt & document reading — extracting vendor, date, totals, tax, and line items from the images and PDFs you upload, or send to the Telegram bot if you’ve linked it.
- Bill-of-sale extraction — reading a signed vehicle contract and pulling out the deal terms so a dealer doesn’t have to retype them.
- Categorization suggestions — proposing a category for a transaction, and proposing reusable rules based on patterns across your own transactions.
What Kountr does not have: there is no chat assistant, no AI-driven anomaly detection, and no AI that files, pays, sends, or contacts anyone on your behalf. If we add any of those, this page changes first.
What data the AI can see
Depending on the feature, inputs can include: the image or PDF you uploaded and the text within it; transaction descriptions, amounts, and dates; vendor names; and your list of categories.
What is never in an AI request:
- Your password — sign-in is handled by Firebase and Kountr never holds it.
- Your bank login. Bank credentials go to Plaid, not Kountr — we never have them.
- Your full account or routing numbers — we don’t request the Plaid products that would give us them.
- Full credit-card numbers — Stripe handles cards and we never receive them.
Note that a document you upload is sent as-is. If a receipt or contract you upload happens to contain sensitive personal details, those details go with it. If you don’t want a particular document processed by AI, don’t upload it — enter the transaction manually instead.
The rules our AI provider must meet
We only use AI providers whose terms include all of the following:
- No training on your data. Inputs and outputs from Kountr are not used to train, fine-tune, or improve their models.
- Limited retention. Any provider-side retention is short and for trust-and-safety purposes only, under published policies.
- No onward sharing beyond what is needed to deliver the inference.
- A data processing agreement covering confidentiality, security, and sub-processor controls.
- Disclosed processing region, which we publish on this page and in the sub-processor list.
The AI provider we use today
Anthropic (the Claude API) — used for all three features above. Processing takes place in the United States. Under Anthropic’s commercial API terms, the inputs and outputs we submit are not used to train their models; Anthropic may retain API inputs and outputs for a limited period for trust-and-safety purposes.
Anthropic is currently our only AI provider. If we add or change providers, we’ll update this page and the sub-processor list, and email account holders about material changes.
What AI is allowed to do on its own
AI in Kountr is an assistant, not an actor. Extracted receipt fields, imported deal terms, and suggested rules are all surfaced to you and can be edited or rejected. Nothing is filed, remitted, paid, or sent to a third party by AI. The Service does not make solely automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects within the meaning of GDPR Article 22.
Accuracy & your responsibility
AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date — misread totals, wrong tax treatment, a plausible-looking category that doesn’t match how you actually run your business. Kountr is not a chartered professional accountant, tax preparer, or advisor. Review what lands in your books before relying on it for a filing, a remittance, or a payment. Correcting a suggestion in Kountr trains nothing outside your own account — it just fixes your books and can inform the rules you choose to save.
Your controls
- Choose what to upload. AI runs on documents you submit and transactions you sync; nothing is processed that you didn’t bring into Kountr.
- Edit or reject any output. Extracted fields and suggested categories are editable, and rules only apply once you save them.
- Ask us to delete AI-derived content. Email info@kountrfi.ca and we’ll remove it from your account.
- What we don’t have yet: a single switch to disable AI features account-wide, and per-document “do not process with AI” flags. If you need either, tell us — that feedback is how it gets prioritized.
